The Volkswagen Type 2 was introduced in 1950 as a multi-variant utility vehicle known as the Transporter, Kombi or Microbus, and was devised as an evolution of the Volkswagen Type 1 - the original Beetle. The first generation of these versatile vehicles (named the T1) was produced with distinctive split-screens from 1950 until 1967.
Our stunning orange and white microbus was manufactured on 27th March 1958 and delivered new in New Zealand, hence the rare right hand drive configuration. It was then exported to Japan, where it stayed until being imported into the UK in 2016. Due to spending its life in salt free climates the body is in remarkable condition and most importantly is rust free. To compliment the condition of the body we ordered a complete mechanical recommissioning by VW bus specialists 181 Classic Motors totalling nearly £5000, resulting in an authentic yet ‘turn-key’ driving experience. As an added bonus in usability a previous owner has installed an aftermarket air conditioning system that works beautifully, allowing summer drives to the beach in complete comfort!
We now have a dedicated vehicle viewing area with plenty of space to carefully examine the car which will have been thoroughly cleaned and sanitised prior to your arrival. All accessories such as bookpacks and service documents will be presented next to the car, with PPE equipment provided. Contactless delivery and handover can also be discussed using our enclosed trailer.
